It comes from the writers of 'Morbius the Living Vampire'
Sony continues to expand its movie universe around 'Spider-Man'. And given the phenomenal success of 'Far From Home' and Spidey spinoff 'Venom', who can blame them?
Collider is reporting that the studio is developing a film centred on Spider-Man comics character Madame Web.
Madame Web's alter identity is Cassandra Webb. She is typically an elderly blind woman suffering from a chronic neuromuscular disease that makes it difficult to move and breathe. She’s connected to a life support system that looks like a spider web.
The clairvoyant character specializes in predicting the future of Spider-themed superheroes. She mentors not only Peter Parker’s alter ego, but also multiple generations of heroes calling themselves Spider-Woman.
Aside from the comics, the character also appeared in the Spider-Man animated series and in multiple Spider-Man video games.
Sony Pictures has tapped Morbius scribes Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless to write the Madame Web movie.
Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach, who worked on 'Venom', will likely produce the feature.
Sazama, Sharpless, Arad and Tolmach also collaborated on the upcoming Sony movie 'Morbius', starring Jared Leto as the titular vampire.
Sazama and Sharpless previosuly penned 'Dracula Untold', 'The Last Witch Hunter' and 'Gods of Egypt'. They were also behind the Netflix reboot of 'Lost in Space'.
For its 'Spider-Man' universe, Sony also has 'Venom 2' and multiple 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse' follow-ups in the pipeline. Sony also has live-action movies in development based on characters like Silk, Black Cat, Silver Sable, Kraven the Hunter, and more.
