Christopher Nolan's World War II drama is out next July
The first trailer for Christopher Nolan's new film 'Oppenheimer' has released, which sees our own Cillian Murphy in the lead role.
The Corkman stars as J. Robert Oppenheimer, known as "the father of the atomic bomb," and the teaser trailer is incredibly Christopher Nolan-y.
Footage of fire and smoke are shown with clips of Murphy as Oppenheimer, with the voices of Emily Blunt and Robert Downey Junior heard as they describe the impact Oppenheimer will have on world history.
“The world is changing, reforming. This is your moment,” says Emily Blunt as Oppenheimer’s wife, Katherine, at the start of the teaser.
Time is a major thematic element in Nolans's films, and the 'Oppenheimer' is no different, with countdown appearing on screen: “11 months, 24 days, 15 hours, 29 minutes" which is a nod to the film's release next July.
The trailer gave very little away in terms of plot, which is typical of Nolan films, with the director usually playing his cards close to his chest with his trailers.
Moody, nightmarish visuals are the name of the game with the 'Oppenheimer' teaser, with the teaser playing before Jordan Peele's new film 'Nope'.
'Oppenheimer' is Nolan's first film since 'Tenet', and the British auteur has secured an all-star cast for his next flick.
Murphy has reunited with Nolan after the pair first worked together on 'Batman Begins' in 2005, with Murphy going on to appear in the subsequent 'Dark Knight' films, 'Inception', and 'Dunkirk' under the direction of Nolan.
With the aforementioned Murphy, Blunt, and Downey Junior in the lead roles, the film also stars (deep breath) Florence Pugh, Matt Damon, Rami Malek, Benny Safdie, Josh Hartnett, Dane DeHaan, Jack Quaid, Matthew Modine, Alden Ehrenreich, Josh Peck, and Kenneth Branagh.
'Oppenheimer' is scheduled to open the same day as 'Barbie', which has the potential to be the most chaotic Friday night at the cinema ever.
