"'The Exorcist' is one of the reasons I became a filmmaker"

Director Mike Flanagan, responsible for recent Netflix horror hits like 'The Haunting of Hill House' and 'The Fall of the House of Usher' is now about to take on one of cinema's most iconic horror films.

Deadline reports that Flanagan, who also directed 'The Shining' sequel 'Doctor Sleep', is writing, directing and producing "a radical new take" on 'The Exorcist'. It will not be a follow-up to the recent box office bomb 'The Exorcist: Believer' and is being built as "an all-new story set in 'The Exorcist' universe".

Flanagan said, "'The Exorcist' is one of the reasons I became a filmmaker, and it is an honour to have the chance to try something fresh, bold, and terrifying within its universe. Reuniting with my friends at Blumhouse, with whom I’ve made some of my favourite pieces of work, only makes this more exciting."

The horror director has also worked with Blumhouse on his movies 'Oculus' (2013), 'Hush' (2016) and 'Ouija: Origin of Evil' (2016). Blumhouse Boss Jason Blum said of the news, "Mike’s voice and vision are indispensable for horror fans and we are excited to welcome him back to Blumhouse. I immediately responded to Mike’s new take on the world of 'The Exorcist' and can’t wait for audiences to experience it."

No word yet on when we can expect to see this new take on 'The Exorcist' but we will keep you posted.
