'Loki' has caused a seismic shift in the MCU
Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has said that a meeting was recently held in order for rules to be laid out so that he and his team can deliver on the upcoming MCU multiverse.
The MCU multiverse is already underway. Following the events of the series finale of 'Loki' season one earlier this week, we've been left hanging as to what's about to happen next in Phase Four.
Leaving us on a cliffhanger, it's impossible to know which way the Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to head in. All we know is the release dates of the next three cinema releases - 'Shang-Chi' in September, 'Eternals' in November, and 'No Way Home' in December. With the first two movies about to establish new Marvel heroes, they are likely not about to get wrapped up in any multiverse nonsense just yet.
The likelihood is that 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' will deliver on the MCU multiverse goods - after all, all of the previous Spider-Man actors are rumoured to be returning. Plus, 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' will be the next release in March of 2022, and with a title like that, it's hard not to imagine anything else taking up The Doc's time.
Whatever is on the horizon for fans, Marvel Studios is working their damnedest to ensure that there are rules in place for when the MCU multiverse is unleashed on audiences. According to The Direct, in an interview with D23 Inside Disney podcast, Kevin Feige and his team recently gathered to finetune the rules of the upcoming storyline.
Feige said: "The multiverse is coming up in a big way. There's interconnectivity there that people have already started to see and suss out and I had a meeting this morning with the whole broad Marvel Studios team going through the multiverse and the rules of the multiverse and exactly how to really deliver on the excitement surrounding the multiverse."
Our first glimpse of what an MCU multiverse movie might look like came in the form of Sony's animated 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse' from 2018. With a sequel movie in the pipeline, it'll be interesting to see what other heroes will join the roster after introducing us to the likes of Spider-Ham.
Following the success of 'Black Widow' both in theatres and on Disney+ this summer, our next MCU arrival will be the Disney+ animated series 'What If...?' on August 11. 'Hawkeye' and 'Ms. Marvel' are also due for release later in 2021.
