"What's the point? The movie exists"

'Home Sweet Home Alone' arrives on Disney Plus this weekend, but not everyone is happy about it...

When the project was announced - and when the trailer dropped in recent weeks - fans bemoaned the fact that 'Home Alone' was getting a remake.

After all, isn't the original already the perfect Christmas movie?

Why try to top it, and why not just leave it as is?

Well Chris Columbus is of the very same mindset, having directed the original 'Home Alone' (as well as a bunch of children's classics like 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets', 'Mrs. Doubtfire', and 'Home Alone 2: Lost in New York').

The director was interviewed by Cinemblend podcast ReelBlend and got quizzed at one point about how he'd feel about the 'Harry Potter' movies being remade.

He answered: "In this version of Hollywood that we live in, everybody is remaking everything, and rebooting everything.

"I mean, there's a 'Home Alone' reboot coming out.

"What's the point? The movie exists, let's just live with the movie that existed.

"There's no point in us remaking The Wizard of Oz, there's no point in any of us remaking the classic films.

"Make something original, because we need more original material. So, no. No point."

Columbus recently hit headlines after saying he'd love to direct a movie adaptation of 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' with Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint reprising their roles from the franchise again.

So sequels are allowed. But no remakes.
