"Anyone have an accordion?"
Daniel Radcliffe steps up to the plate to play one of the most infamous parody artists of our generation.
He's got his Hawaiian shirt on - but he's still looking for an accordion. The very first 'WEIRD: The Al Yankovic Story' teaser trailer has dropped and it certainly lives up to the name.
Daniel Radcliffe (he of Harry Potter and various indie movies fame) will act (and sing, strip, dance, get in towel brawls and play the accordion) in the untold story about the beginnings of the American performer.
With 15 studio albums in his back pocket, "Weird Al" Yankovic wasn't initially as big a hit as you might have thought, not truly getting recognition for this work until nearly 30 years into his career. This comedy biopic will explore the star's initial beginnings as an over-enthusiastic, polka-loving stage performer.
With a career now spanning nearly four decades, his comedy recordings did secure him his first-ever Grammy Award in 1985 for 'Eat it', the riff on Michael Jackson's 'Beat It'. He went on to claim six Grammys in total, as well as six of his records going Platinum.
The 'Al Yankovic Story' trailer focuses on Radcliffe for the most part, but in the background shots we can spot Rainn Wilson as US radio host Dr. Demento, Julianne Nicholson as Al's mother Mary Yankovic, and Evan Rachel Wood teasing her role as Madonna in the final moments of the one-minute clip.
The pop parody hit-maker will now tell his untold story exclusively on the Roku Channel later this year, which will be free to stream for those who have access (some Smart TVs have the movie channel built-in).
Here's the trailer.
'WEIRD: The Al Yankovic Story' begins streaming on Roku Channel this autumn.
