We're guessing he wanted to stay well away from felines
The critically-panned meme factory that was the movie version of'Cats' caused the musical's creator to buy a therapy dog to take with him while flying.
Andrew Lloyd Webber had to buy a therapy dog to help him forget about his "off-the-scale all wrong" adaptation of his hit musical 'Cats'.
Nobody, nobody needs reminding of just how bad the 2019 movie adaptation is. The CGI cat infestation boasted a pretty incredible cast of Judi Dench, Ian McKellen, Jennifer Hudson, Rebel Wilson, Idris Elba, Jason Derulo, Taylor Swift and many more - but ended up being a bigger stinker than what you would find in your kitty litter tray.
It seems the movie took such a toll on the original stage production's composer Andrew Lloyd Webber that he needed a dog to get him through it. In a recent interview with Variety, the creator said: "'Cats' was off-the-scale all wrong. There wasn’t really any understanding of why the music ticked at all.
"I saw it and I just thought, 'Oh, God, no'. It was the first time in my 70-odd years on this planet that I went out and bought a dog. So the one good thing to come out of it is my little Havanese puppy."
Webber stated last year that he thought the production was "ridiculous".
The Tom Hooper production, from the man who directed 'The King's Speech', 'Les Misérables' and 'The Danish Girl', gave such grief to Webber that he asked an airline if he could take his "therapy dog" on flights from London to New York with him - and they said yes.
He continued: "I wrote off and said I needed him with me at all times because I'm emotionally damaged and I must have this therapy dog.
"The airline wrote back and said, 'Can you prove that you really need him?' And I said 'Yes, just see what Hollywood did to my musical 'Cats'. Then the approval came back with a note saying, 'No doctor's report required'."
Well, there you have it, folks. Now you know how good your excuse has to be next time you wish to take your pooch onboard your next flight - or just get a doctor's note.
