Batgirl, we hardly knew ye
Staff and crew of the infamously canned Warner Bros movie 'Batgirl' will be able to watch a special movie screening this week before it's locked away.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that the "funeral screenings" will be held before the film is sent off to an undisclosed afterlife. Footage will then be locked away in a vault, either physical or digital.
Earlier this month Warner Bros announced a massive U-turn in their strategy and canned the $90 million 'Batgirl', starring Leslie Grace, deep into post-production. It comes as part of a change in direction for the company which also saw the cancellation of the upcoming movie 'Scoob!'
However, there was serious backlash from fans who were excited to see the movie come to the big screen. Some people were especially annoyed to point out 'The Flash' was still going ahead, despite numerous legal issues of star Ezra Miller.
The film only had one preview screening which was the only time the general public saw it. Reports say its cancellation was due to tax reasons, in a cost-saving measure from new Warner Bros CEO David Zaslav.
There is hopes that one day the film will see the light of day. However, directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah say they do not personally have access to any footage. Though THR sources say it’s possible some players connected to the project may have footage on personal drives.
For now though, we can only hope that one day it gets the release it deserves.
