Live-action movie is coming to Netflix
Everyone from Sonic the Hedgehog to Nathan Drake have gotten their own live-action movie over the last few years, now another icon of gaming is making the jump to the silver screen - Mega Man.
Per The Mary Sue, the project is in development at Netflix, and will be a live-action outing for the famous Capcom character.
The film will be directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, directors of the original 'Catfish' documentary that spawned the hit MTV series, the Dave Franco and Emma Roberts thriller 'Nerve' and the 2020 Jamie Foxx film 'Project Power'.
The pair will also serve as writers for the film, which at present has no stars attached or a release date, but is confirmed to be in "active development" for Netflix.
'Mega Man' made his debut all the way back in 1987 on the Nintendo Entertainment System and ended up spawning 11 titles in the franchise, with the most recent release, the aptly-titled 'Mega Man 11', being released in 2018.
Capcom's mascot had his own TV show in the mid-1990s that ran for two seasons between 1994 and 1996 and more recently had a show called 'Mega Man: Fully Charged' that aired in 2018 and 2019.
The Netflix film will be the first live-action outing for the character, and as of yet, no actor has been attached.
"The details are top secret for now, we’ll let you know when we have some fun stuff to share," a representative for Joost and Schulman said.
With Mario and Sonic getting big-budget movies, it's only right another icon of gaming gets a shot at the big time, and Mega Man looks primed to follow in their footsteps.
