Release dates change, but a bad game is bad forever.

The release dates for two of the most anticipated games of the year have been pushed back months.

Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics, the developers and studio behind 'Marvel's Avengers', have announced that the game's release date is to be pushed back from March to September 4th to allow for "fine tuning and polishing", according to a statement released yesterday evening.

The statement added that they're "committed to delivering an original story-driven campaign, engaging co-op, and compelling content for years to come," hence the delay. To be honest, it's not all that surprising that this is happening. For one, the audience reaction to the first trailer at E3 was definitely middling, to say the least. On top of that, the character designs shown in that trailer didn't meet people's expectations from what they've seen throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

It wasn't the only release date that was kicked to touch, either. Square Enix also announced that 'Final Fantasy 7 Remake' was pushed from March to April 10th, with a similar reason being given for the delay. In his statement, Square Enix producer Yoshinori Kitase explained that the delay was a "tough decision in order to give ourselves a few extra weeks to apply final polish to the game and to deliver you with the best possible experience."

As with any change in gaming release dates, players often are far more accepting as anything that makes the released game is by its very nature a good thing. With something like 'Final Fantasy 7 Remake', the game has been in development for so long that it could well be just a final polish, but for something like 'Marvel's Avengers', it could be something a little more drastic.

All will no doubt be revealed in the coming months.
