Show is in early development at streaming giant
A Netflix based on the 'Horizon' series of games for PlayStation is making the jump to the small screen.
Variety reports that a series based on the hit series of games is in the early stages of development at Netflix.
Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO Tony Vinciquerra revealed in an investor briefing on Thursday that 'Horizon' will be adapted for the screen.
There have been no casting or personnel announcements made at this stage, but the announcement indicates that Sony are keen to adapt their properties for television and film after the success of 'Uncharted' earlier this year.
'Uncharted' made over $400 million at the global box office following its February release, which indicates that Sony are confident that the 'Horizon series has enough name recognition to launch a franchise.
The 'Horizon' series follows a warrior born into a post-apocalyptic world overrun by robotic dinosaurs.
The games have received significant critical and commercial acclaim for its vivid and rich game world, epic storyline and deep gameplay.
'Horizon: Forbidden West' was released in February and we praised the game for its stunning lifelike graphics, Ashly Burch's strong vocal performance as Aloy, and vast game world.
'Horizon' joins the likes of 'Fallout', 'It Takes Two', and Sony's own 'Twisted Metal' in being adapted for television as industry executives are keen to capture the built-in fanbase for massive franchises in the hopes of making shows a hit.
A series based on 'God Of War' is also in the works from the creators of hit sci-fi series 'The Expanse', and HBO's take on 'The Last Of Us' is set to debut late in 2022 or early next year.
No word as of yet on a release date for the 'Horizon' series as it's still in the very early stages of development.
