Skateboarding icon will be at CityWest on July 29th to discuss his life on and off the skateboard
The Birdman himself, Tony Hawk, is coming to Dublin this July.
The iconic skateboarder will be in Ireland this summer for an event titled 'An Evening With Tony Hawk' on July 29th, with the event taking place in CityWest in Dublin.
Hawk became a household name in the late 1990s/early 2000's thanks to lending his name and likeness to the 'Tony Hawks Pro Skater' series of video games, and the skateboarding legend is credited with helping make the sport mainstream.
At his peak, Hawk was recognised and identified as the most-recognised action-sports figure in the world.
Hawk's achievements on the board include being the first-ever skateboarder to land the elusive 900 at the 1999 X Games, holding the title of the world champion skateboarder for 12 consecutive years, and inventing the ollie-to-indy trick.
Off the board, Hawk's shrewd business acumen led to the 'Tony Hawk's Pro Skater' series of games becoming a billion-dollar franchise, with a remaster of the original two games for current-generation consoles proving to be a hit in 2020.
The cross-generational appeal of the games has led to Hawk becoming a cult hero for a new generation of sports fans who were born well after The Birdman hung up his skateboard.
Hawk retired from the sport in 1999, and founded The Skatepark Project, which to date has given away over $10 million to over 600 skateparks around the world, which provides the necessary finance to build public skateparks in low-income areas.
Tickets for the event go on sale this Friday on Ticketmaster at 9am, with tickets for the event costing €33.50.
