Late Night with Stephen Colbert is one of the few shows on late night US television that actually tapes Monday to Friday, meaning that while the shows themselves may not be live, they are still run with the knowledge of the current news cycle.

Last night, the news of the Paris Attacks broke and according to reports on Twitter, Colbert came out and addressed the audience during the break and taped a message at the end of the show.

"Folks, we end tonight's show with a heavy heart because we taped all of tonight's show, and then we found out about the horrific attacks in Paris today,” Colbert said at the end of his hour-long show Friday night. “I know not much is known right now. We do know there have been many deaths and the crisis is still ongoing.”

Colbert appeared to be fighting back tears as he finished the show before CBS cut straight to a rerun of The Late Late Show with James Corden.
