We've all fallen in love with Martin Moone and family and not it seems that America just can't get enough of the young Irish fella (who is probably, let's face it, some long distant relative seventeen times removed) either, awawrding the comedy series its very first International Emmy.

Co-writers and creators Chris O'Dowd and Nick Vincent Murphy were on hand to watch their little series that could leave South Africa's Late Nite News with Loyiso, France's Workingirls and Brazil's How to Enjoy the End of the World choking on its dust.

The lads were absolutely delighted with the win, which they said they didn't see coming at all. "We've been focused on drinking tonight", Murphy joked. And knowing himself and Mr O'Dowd, we wouldn't be at all surprised to hear they'd just been having the craic. Sure isn't it a very Irish way to do an awards ceremony all together?

Other big winners on the night included a very humbled Sean Bean who picked up a gong for his role in Accused. "I've never actually won anything" he said. "Thank you. I really am so happy." And there was also a special award for Star Trek turned Star Wars director JJ Abrams, who was honoured with the International Emmy Founders Award, a prize reserved for those who can inspire audiences anywhere in the world, regardless of the cultural boundaries.

"I feel unworthy" Abrams said. "I feel genuinely grateful. It's a privilege to work in the television medium."

Keep an eye out for Moone Boy Season 2, coming to Sky One in the not too distant future.
