The job of writing and directing Star Wars Episode IX would be enough work for most people, but not for J.J. Abrams.

The writer / director / producer has created a brand new TV series called Demimonde. According to the Hollywood Reporter, it's a big-budget sci-fi family drama that sees a young girl being transported to a new land where there's an ongoing battle for survival against an oppressive force. He's not straying too far from Star Wars so...

HBO and Apple are both bidding for the series, which would be the first TV project written and created solely by Abrams since Fringe. His other TV work includes Lost, Alias and Felicity.

Abrams is already an executive producer on HBO sci-fi series, Westworld. The company have been looking for new big name show to fill the void that will be left when Game of Thrones ends. Apple have yet to get into the production game, but a series with Abrams could give them a perfect launching pad for their own streaming service. A decision is expected by the end of the week.

Wherever this show ends up, we know we'll be watching.
