'Elementary' gets rave reviews stateside. Benedict Cumberbatch will be pleased.
The US version of Sherlock is getting an airing on Sky Living. Benedict Cumberbatch will be furiously setting the series link for that one.
Well, at least the Americans seem to like it, and that's the main thing. Here's what they've been saying so far…
The New York Post: "One of the oldest characters in English literature is about to become one of the hottest stars of the fall season."
Entertainment Weekly: "You can take the oldest, most familiar concept and give it fresh life with crisp writing and appealing actors - and Elementary has both. If there’s one sure-shot ratings hits this season, my bet is on this series."
The New York Times: "Why do we love it? Basically you can never really have too much Sherlock Holmes."
TV Guide: "Elementary has all the pieces to be a winner: an attractive cast, a strong lead-in and audience familiarity with the enduring Sherlock Holmes franchise. Together, Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu are a joy to watch and there is a definite chemistry working between them, which makes you invest in Sherlock and Watson almost immediately."
Yeah, so that's that you need to do, Benedict, transform Martin Freeman into an attractive lady of Asian origin and start sexing it up a bit.
Here's the back story to the latest incarnation of Sherlock: Following his fall from grace in London and a stint in rehab, eccentric Sherlock escapes to Manhattan where his wealthy father forces him to live with his worst nightmare - a sober companion, Dr. Watson. A successful surgeon until she lost a patient and her license three years ago, Watson views her current job as another opportunity to help people, as well as paying a penance.
And to hang out with Johnny Lee Miller. With hair.
Elementary will broadcast on SKY Living this October (week 43, day and time TBC).
Until then, why not remind yourselves of what this continent's Sherlock had to say of the US offering. It wasn't that nice.

If the US wants to see a real Sherlock, there is only one. And he can be found on the BBC in the form of Benedict Cumberbatch. I think I'll give this poor US copycat attempt a miss.Posted 15:45 | Sat 29th Sep 2012
