As revealed earlier in the week, Robbie Williams played the opening ceremony of the World Cup today, and has hit the headlines for giving the tournament’s millions of viewers the middle finger during his performance.

Williams performed a few songs to kick off the tournament (its first match being Russia vs. Saudi Arabia). Then, during the pause of one of his songs, he flipped the bird, gave the middle finger, or whatever you call it in whatever territory.

The reactions from tweeters all over the world have been divided. Some have praised the ‘rebel’, while others had some colourful language to criticize the singer with.

The singer also made headlines earlier in the month when he got caught in a hotel fire in London.

Williams is also reportedly being lined-up up as a future ‘X Factor’ judge, alongside wife Ayda Field.
