Changes are afoot in Montrose, it would seem. Having announced Bernard O'Shea, Keith Walsh and Jennifer Maguire as the new breakfast show hosts on RTE Radio the latest member of the RTE payroll is none other than former Westlife crooner Nicky Byrne.

Bertie Ahern's son-in-law will host The Nicky Byrne Show on RTE 2fm every weekday from 11am. Not too early a start for the Dubliner, then. A fully revamped RTE radio schedule is expected to be announced in the coming weeks and we're holding out that the RTE directors find something, anything, for the 'I fight like me da' one out of B*Witched. Fingers crossed.

Commenting on his new role, Nicky Byrne said: "Dan Healy (head of 2fm) has amazing plans and vision for the station moving forward and it is very exciting for me to be part of those plans. There is a real belief from within about where the station can go – the thought of being on air Monday to Friday is daunting but very, very exciting. It is a massive opportunity for me, one in which I hope I can deliver on forming a successful relationship with the station for many years to come. Now it's time to start planning, developing and presenting my new show and I really can't wait to get chatting to our listeners nationwide daily."

Head of 2fm, Dan Healy said: "I am thrilled that Nicky is joining the team. I started to talking to Nicky about 2fm as soon as I arrived. I believe that Nicky will appeal to young audiences through instant likeability and humour. Following our breakfast show announcement last week Nicky is the latest high profile bagging for 2fm....watch this space."

So you're saying that there's a chance for yer one from B*Witched, then?

The Nicky Byrne Show is expected to debut in the next few weeks.
