Gwyneth Paltrow has been approached to star in her first ever stage musical.

The Oscar winner is wanted to play Sylvia Llewelyn Davies - whose four sons befriended author J.M. Barrie and inspired him to write 'Peter Pan' - in 'Finding Neverland', which is based on the 2004 film of the same name.

According to the Daily Mail newspaper, the production is due to open in Leicester, England, in September before moving to London's West End in 2013.

If Gwyneth agrees to tread the boards then she will appear opposite actor Julian Ovenden.

In the movie version Johnny Depp portrayed the writer and Kate Winslet played Sylvia.

Although Gwyneth has never appeared in a musical before she has been showcasing her singing talents in recent months.

The 39-year-old actress performed several songs in her recurring guest role as supply teacher Holly Holiday in 'Glee', and she showcased her voice in movie 'Country Strong', in which she played a troubled country singer.
