Pamela Anderson adopts Indian slum dog

Pamela Anderson has adopted a stray dog from India's slums.

The former 'Baywatch' star was moved by the plight of the impoverished pooches during a recent visit to the country and when she discovered an Indian representative from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) was coming to the US she asked if she could bring one of the canines with her.

The 44-year-old blonde beauty - who appeared on the Indian version of 'Big Brother' - is now the owner of a puppy who was rescued from a construction site in Mumbai which she has named Pyari ('Loved One') and she has urged other people to adopt abandoned animals.

Pamela - who is an honourary director of PETA - said: ''I'm thrilled to be able to give Pyari a loving home. I already have rescued dogs, and I urge everyone to join me in adopting a homeless dog from their local animal shelter or the streets instead of buying a so-called 'pedigree'.''
