The very first televised performance of 'Volcano', one of the central tracks on U2's new album/iPhone accessory 'Songs of Innocence', made its live televised debut on Jools Holland's late night music show last night. Check it out, as well as another track 'Every Breaking Wave', below.
'Songs of Innocence' debuted in the Irish charts at #2 last weekend, beaten to the top spot by Hozier - the Wicklow man who looks set to oust U2's position as undisputed kings of the Irish charts over the last couple of decades.
U2's decision to release 'Songs of Innocence' for free via iTunes was met with howls of disapproval from many media, musicians and fans alike but the band's manager Guy Oseary maintains that the decision was a positive one, citing in reports online the sheer number of iTunes users (speculated to be in the region of 500 million) that were given access to the record.
Bono, meanwhile, blamed the entire episode on a "drop of megalomania".
