Since R.E.M. split a few years ago, Michael Stipe has kept a relatively low profile, rarely appearing on TV or at gigs and usually only to help a friend out when he did pop up.
Last night, however, he made a rare solo appearance on TV when he performed on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
He was promoting the forthcoming David Bowie tribute at Carnegie Hall, which he's taking part in alongside The Roots, Cat Power, Blondie and Mumford and Sons on Friday and also alongside Patti Smith, Cat Power, Pixies and more on Thursday.
