Scruffy, shambolic, ridiculously right-on - Brighton band The Levellers are just never going to be fashionable. But it's not just their image that's the problem; their music has always been an awkward mix of heavy handed punk and English folk. Their sixth album is more of the same; a succession of hectoring songs with some fairly crass lyrics about social issues such as homelessness. In fairness to them their earnestness is rather touching, and some of the songs do rock out quite stirringly. But ultimately it all feels a bit simple-minded and about as relevant as an old CND banner.
