Want to catch the next Hozier, Kodaline or U2 before they make it big? (Alright, just the next Hozier, then?)
The Irish Youth Music Awards take place at Dublin's Aviva Stadium next Saturday, April 18th and is open to the public to attend.
The final will see the culmination of project that has been headed by Youth Work Ireland over the last few months. In youth clubs and projects around Ireland, heats have been taking place since December, that entail young musicians writing and performing their own material, forming groups and discovering the best way to market and represent their chosen song.
"The aim of the project is to encourage young people to learn more about all the jobs that take place around the band and get an understanding of the music industry," said Barry Lennon, Director of IYMA. Lennon is a man with form in the music biz: he previously co-founded the acclaimed Richter Collective label, and currently runs the Seven Quarters Club, as well as fronting punk band Hands Up Who Wants to Die.
2015 marks the 7th year of the awards, when teams of young musicians, songwriters and promoters from sixteen regions around Ireland will compete to win the top prize - time in a professional recording studio and the release of their very own album. The prize will be judged on how well each term performs on the day.
