The estate of Prince have formally requested that Donald Trump and the White House stop playing his music at his rallies.

A tweet sent by Omarr Baker on behalf of the estate of Prince stated that "the Prince Estate has never given permission to President Trump or The White House to use Prince’s songs and have requested that they cease all use immediately."

According to some reports, 'Purple Rain' is part of a rolling playlist that goes out during Trump rallies in the US, most recently in Mississippi. You'd think they'd go with 'Lemon Crush', but whatever, who cares.

Whether or not the White House or Trump will actually comply remains to be seen, but this isn't the first time a musician has banned their music from any kind of association with Trump.

Adele, Aerosmith and the Rolling Stones have all formally requested that Trump no longer play their music at his rallies. However, the thing to remember here is that they can ask all they want, a politician - even one as hated as Trump - can continue to play their music as much as they like once they pay royalties.

The Prince Estate has been pretty stringent about their image in the past, previously blocking attempts for a Prince hologram to play at the Superbowl alongside Justin Timberlake.
