Prince has given his thoughts on the current state of music industry in a new interview, and they're not particularly positive.

The Purple One sat down with The New York Post and was asked what he thought about a number of up-and-coming bands. "It's a bad time for music in general," he said. "There's not a lot of pop music in the mainstream that makes you feel scared, that makes you wonder what's happening."

When asked what he thought of acts who have cited his brand of "sexy funk" as an influence - like Tame Impala and The Weeknd - he said "There might be music that sounds like me, but what good is that? You're essentially in the feedback loop."

Ouch.

Prince releases his new album 'HITNRUN' - his 35th studio album overall - via Tidal later this month. His song 'Purple Rain' was recently voted the best song of the 1980s by music website Pitchfork.
