Passion Pit frontman Michael Angelakos has come out as gay during an interview conducted by 'American Psycho' author Bret Easton Ellis for his podcast.
The 'Sleepyhead' singer, who has also spoken openly about his struggle with bipolar disorder in the past, addressed the topic of his sexuality during the interview, saying that although he had been married to a woman, he decided to come out earlier this year. "I just wanted so badly to be straight, because I love her so much," he said of his ex-wife Kirsty Mucci. "I think that was one of the most painful things when we decided to separate.”
He said that Mucci had been instrumental in supporting him and encouraging him to come out. "When I decided to really deal with it head on - which was, I don't know, in June - she was the one who spearheaded it in a way," he said. "She said, 'You need to figure out what's going on with your sexuality because you can't hate yourself anymore.'"
Passion Pit released their latest album 'Kindred' earlier this year.
