However the 60 year old still faces charges of drug possession and making threats to kill.
It's fair to say that the music world was plunged into mild disrepute yesterday when it emerged that 60 year old Phil Rudd, drummer for rock legends AC/DC, have been arrested for attempting to procure a hitman to kill two as-yet-unnamed acquaintances.
Well, as per reports from the BBC today, it seems that the murder plot charges have been dropped after prosecuting lawyer Greg Hollister-Jones deemed the case to have insufficient evidence to proceed.
According to Paul Mabey, Phil Rudd's lawyer, the "charge alleging an attempt to procure murder should never have been laid" and added that Rudd had suffered "incalculable" damage due to the negative publicity.
The drugs charges, for possession of cannabis and methamphetamine, are still valid and if those, and the charge of making threats to kill someone, are found to be true, Rudd could be facing up to 7 years in jail.
AC/DC's next (and likely final) album 'Rock or Bust' will be released in early December and all eyes will be on whether or not that 'there's no such thing as bad publicity' maxim proves to be true in this case.
