The music business has seen its fair share of outlandish stunts, but rarely do they involve wasting such a large amount of money - at least, not so blatantly publicly.
Taking his leaf from The KLF - who famously burned £1 million of their own money in 1994 - Joe Corré, son of late Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren and fashion designer Vivienne Westwood, is planning to burn $7 million worth of punk memorabilia.
It's unlikely that Corré has to worry about the financial implications of such a deed, since he is the found of lingerie brand Agent Provocateur - but nevertheless, he's planning a bonfire in London in November to burn his $7 million / £5 million / €6 million punk memorabilia collection, and has invited other people to join him.
It's his response to the Punk London, a series of events marking 40 years of punk that is set to take place this year - and it seems that he has a problem with the establishment supporting the programme, a fact that goes against the very ethos of punk.
His statement read: "The Queen giving 2016, the Year of Punk, her official blessing is the most frightening thing I’ve ever heard. Talk about alternative and punk culture being appropriated by the mainstream. Rather than a movement for change, punk has become like a fucking museum piece or a tribute act."
"A general malaise has now set in amongst the British public. People are feeling numb. And with numbness comes complacency. People don't feel they have a voice anymore. The most dangerous thing is that they have stopped fighting for what they believe in. They have given up the chase. We need to explode all the shit once more."
The bonfire is set for Camden in London on November 26th.
