Luke Haines is renowned as the most cynical man in pop and his latest offering will do absolutely nothing to threaten that proud reputation - this soundtrack to a film about a bank manager turned terrorist is perfectly suited to the Auteurs / Black Box Recorder man's particular brand of vitriol. The film's early-80s setting dictates the musical choice and there's a certain amount of disco pastiches here along with Haines's trademark indie guitar sound. It's his contemptuous lyrics and half-whispered delivery that provide the most fun, however, as he vents his spleen against a host of targets including the church, the class system and ultimately everyone on the island of Britain. Perfect listening for twisted misanthropes everywhere.
