Adele may not have been present at the BBC Music Awards last night, but she still managed to make her presence felt.

The Londoner bagged the British Artist of the Year award, despite only releasing her album last month - a fact that she acknowledged in her video acceptance speech.

Meanwhile, Hozier flew the Irish flag by winning 'Song of the Year' for 'Take Me to Church' (which was released in September 2013, so not sure how that works) and performed an impressive version of the song backed by an orchestra (below).

There were other performances by an eclectic mix of guests: One Direction, Ellie Goulding, Rod Stewart, Little Mix and Paul Heaton & Jacqui Abbott with The Shires.
