With the controversy surrounding Garth Brooks' concerts raging on and now reaching international outlets, there's been some developments in the story so far. Peter Aiken, owner of Aiken Promotions, held an interview on RTE Radio 1 earlier this morning to give a full briefing on the current state of affairs.
Aiken says that if the concerts are cancelled, both he and Garth Brooks are going to be out by a significant sum - apparently up into seven figures. Brooks had planned to film a documentary during the concerts, following the behind-the-scenes setup and more and had a massive stage-show lined up. Not only that, Aiken Promotions were unable to secure insurance for the concerts until the licence was provided.
According to Aiken, Brooks said that he has a film crew of up to 80 people coming with him to make this documentary, and that it would be sold as a DVD on a later date. Aiken had broached the idea of Brooks doing three shows and coming back at a later point to do two more. This, apparently, was a non-runner for the country music star as custom-made sets have been designed for Croke Park. Aiken indicated that up to twelve containers have left the States, bound for Ireland.
Meanwhile, Sinn Fein councillors are planning to table an emergency meeting with Dublin City Council this Monday to have the issue resolved once and for all. All sources indicate that the matter will be dealt with by Tuesday.
Despite all this, however, Peter Aiken is optimistic and says that he's working closely with Garth Brooks behind the scenes to keep the show alive.
No shows have been officially cancelled as yet.
