French DJ and producer David Guetta will write the official theme tune for Euro 2016, it has been announced.
The tournament is being held in France next summer, which partly explains the decision to enlist the Paris-born EDM aficionado to do the honours. In fact, as he explained on Twitter yesterday, he is the official 'musical ambassador' for the tournament.
He'll perform at the opening ceremony at the Stade de France, and will also play a free gig in Paris on June 9th, the evening before it kicks off.
"It is incredibly exciting to be part of this huge football tournament in my home country," he said. "Music and football go hand in hand. We want the fans to be at the very heart of everything that we do."
Meanwhile, UEFA president Michel Platini said: "We wanted to work with David Guetta because he has proven throughout his career that he can create music which inspires people all around the world. David's music has great energy so we look forward to seeing and hearing him add to the spirit and atmosphere of the tournament."
