It's been reported on David Bowie's official website that the 69-year old singer has died of cancer.

The statement reads: "David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief."

Bowie did not publicly acknowledge his battle with cancer and the death comes as a shock to, well, everyone. His son, Duncan Jones, posted this tweet with an intimate picture of his father from when he was a toddler.
