After being a central character in ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ and used to promote ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’, Rose Tico, played by Kelly Marie Tran, was only given a minute or so of screen time, much to fans’ chagrin. The hashtag #RoseTicoDeservedBetter began to trend online.
Now a famous face has stood up for her on Twitter.
Jon M. Chu has appealed directly to Disney+ to give the character her own TV spin-off and put himself forward as director. "Ok @disneyplus. Put me in coach. Let’s make this series happen #RoseTicoDeservedBetter," he tweeted.

The side-lining of Rose Tico came as a surprise to many as Kelly Marie Tran had spoken of her intense preparations for ‘The Rise of Skywalker’.
"Before, Rose was a new character who was in maintenance and she was not a huge part of the resistance. But now she's in the resistance in a big way and it's very cool," she explained.
"I had to learn everything that had to do with being in a war, like holding a gun. I've never held a gun before. Things like that, that you don't even think about when you're watching this movie. We're all real people living real lives," she told Digital Spy and other media.
Whether Chu’s intervention will turn any heads in the Disney boardroom, it remains to be seen. Watch this space.
