The rapper has been found to have violated NBA anti-tampering laws, earning his local team a fine.
Drake has drawn the considerable ire of fans of his hometown basketball team after comments he made on stage during a performance at Toronto's OVO Fest last week. The Canadian, who is an official ambassador for the NBA team, spoke to the crowd about Oklahoma City Thunder player Kevin Durant who becomes a free agent in 2016, admitting that he hopes that the player will sign for the Raptors when his contract expires.
"I just want to see what would happen if he came to play in Toronto", Drake said.
What's wrong with that, you may ask? Well, given that he represents the Toronto Raptors in an official capacity, Drake was found to have broken a longstanding anti-tampering law in the NBA which forbids teams from "tapping up" players from other franchises. Cue a $25,000 fine.
We're pretty sure the Raptors didn't have this in mind when they recruited the rapper to represent them.
