The U2 man has admitted for the first time that his ill-fated iTunes giveaway might not have been the best of ideas.
Bono has blamed a "drop of megalomania" for his decision to team up with Apple to release the band's latest album 'Songs of Innocence' completely free to every iTunes user worldwide.
Speaking to fans via another global tech brand as part of a Facebook Q&A, Bono was asked if he ever intends to release an album on iTunes that downloads to people's playlists automatically. The person added: "It's really rude."
Bono's answered: "Oops. I'm sorry about that. I had this beautiful idea and we got carried away with ourselves. Artists are prone to that kind of thing. Drop of megalomania, touch of generosity, dash of self-promotion, and deep dear that these songs that we poured our life into over the last few years mightn't be heard. There's a lot of noise out there. I guess we got a little noisy ourselves to get through it."
Reports suggest that just 5% of iTunes 500 million user base worldwide downloaded 'Songs of Innocence', but that's still enough for it to tie Britney Spears' '...Baby One More Time' as the 32nd "best selling" album of all time.
