You could hardly have missed in the last week or so the news that U2's new album was being given away for free to iTunes users in a huge deal that could shape the way music is distributed in the future.
You might even have spotted the ads for that same partnership on TV, they look a little bit like this.
Now, if that's not your cup of tea, and you happened to have automatic downloads on, then you would undoubtedly have been upset to find the new album on your iTunes without your consent. You're not alone, because it looks as though plenty of people with an Apple device have been complaining that not only do they not want the album, but they can't get it off their device now either.
Responding to the controversy, Apple decided to provide a special link that users can go to and removed the album, entitled Songs of Innocence from their device, with just one simple click. However, there is a warning that if you choose to remove the album, you won't be able to redownload it again as a previous purchase, so consider it carefully before you go ahead and click on the link.
As one Twitter user put it, you should think of it as a tool to remove some malware from your device, which is very harsh indeed. Still, it seems that they literally can't give their new album away...
