Apple are reportedly getting in on the music streaming industry, and plan to launch a new service to rival Spotify, according to The New York Times.
They say that Zane Lowe's recent move from BBC Radio 1 to Apple will see him fronting a revamped version of iTunes Radio, while Apple and Beats (the company they bought for a whopping $3 billion last year) will partner to established a subscription service for streaming that'll go head-to-head with Spotify.
The Times report that Apple had attempted to persuade record labels to lower their licensing costs for music, enabling them to offer a reduced rate for listeners - but that the labels said no.
Unlike Spotify, however, there'll be no option for a 'free' service. Spotify currently offers free streaming with ads, or a 'premium' subscription package with no ads for €9.99 a month in Ireland.
