A new one-day festival with elements of music and history will take place in Kells, Co. Meath next month.
As its title may suggest, The Big Viking Picnic is a Viking-themed event where attendees are encouraged to dress up as Vikings, as there'll be a Viking village, Viking settlement, Viking re-enactment groups, food, crafts made on site by skilled traditional craftsmen, SFX make up and Viking hair styling and much more. Oh, and a Viking longboat, too.
If you've watched the TV series Vikings - which is filmed in Ireland - there will also be a number of extras floating around. In fact, Travis Fimmel - aka Ragnar Lothbrook from the show - is an ambassador for the event and will make an appearance, if the show's filming schedule allows on the day.
There'll also be some non-Viking-themed music, of course. Red Empire, The Riot Tapes, Buffalo Sunn,The Celtic Blondes, Supernaught (Black Sabbath tribute) Stone Cold Sober, The Two Dubs, Shoe The Donkey, Red Hot Copy Peppers, Sunset Strip '80s band, Simply Sinatra, Christy Moore tribute, Penrose, Donna Marie & Michael, Christy Kavanagh and the Patriots (Luke Kelly tribute) are all on the bill, with more TBA.
It takes place at the Grove Gardens in Kells, Co. Meath on August 29th and all proceeds will go towards Aoibheann’s Pink Tie charity.
