"Monk" is an American crime drama starring Tony Shalhoub as private detective Adrian Monk. While carrying out his various investigations, Monk tries to conquer his many fears and phobias, which include climbing a ladder, drinking milk and putting ladybugs on his hand. Capt Leland Sottlemeyer (Ted Levine) and Lt Randall Disher (Jason Gray-Stanford) of the San Francisco police department call on Monk when they are struggling with an investigation. Monk had worked for the SFPD as a detective until his wife was killed by a car bomb in a parking garage. Her death led Monk to suffer a nervous breakdown and he refused to leave his house for more than three years. He was finally able to venture outside with the help of nurse Sharona Fleming (Bitty Schram) and this allowed him to start working as a private detective. In his spare time, Monk tries to discover who killed his wife. It premiered in 2002 and ran for eight seasons.
