'Bonanza' is an American western series following the adventures of the Cartwright family, headed by Ben Cartwright (Lorne Greene). He had three sons, each by a different wife. The eldest was Adam (Pernell Roberts), the second was Eric (Dan Blocker) and the youngest was Little Joe (Michael Landon). The storylines focused on Ben and his three dissimilar sons and attempted to confront contemporary social issues even though it was a period drama. The family lived on a ranch called Ponderosa on the shore of Lake Tahoe in Nevada. The show first aired in America in 1959 and ran for 431 episodes until 1973. Three made-for-TV movies featuring the Cartwrights' offspring were made in 1988, 1993 and 1995. When the original show ended, Michael Landon went on to star in the equally popular 'Little House on the Prairie'.
