A otherworldly being from planet Trisolaris responds, warning Ye that she must halt the project or Earth's location will be exposed and an full-scale invasion will begin. Disillusioned with the dire state of affairs on the third rock from the sun, Ye sends further messages and seals our fate. In the hundreds of years that it will take the Trisolaran armada to arrive, distinct factions emerge that intend to support the invaders, destroy them or bargain with the outsiders to secure safe passage.
