Django Unchained is seen by many as Quentin Tarantino's greatest achievement in the last ten years, eclipsing our personal favourite Inglorious Basterds. The film - which originally had a length of FOUR hours - was cut down to two and a half hours. Now, it seems, Tarantino may be looking at using the missing 90 minutes.
In a recent interview with USA Today, Tarantino talked about Django Unchained and its epic length. "I have about 90 minutes worth of material. It hasn't been seen," he explained. Tarantino went on to mention that he'd cut a four-hour miniseries - because, in his words "everybody love those".
"People roll their eyes at a four-hour movie. But a four-hour miniseries that they like, then they are dying to watch all four parts." Tarantino definitely has a point - TV is enjoying a golden age and miniseries ala True Detective and so on are the flavour of the year. Tarantino has worked in TV in the past, famously directing that feature-length episode of CSI where somebody was buried alive - we think. It's been a long time since we watched CSI.
Initial thoughts? Tarantino's one of these people who'll say something and not follow through on it. Remember the fabled Vega Brothers film that'd join up Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction? Never happened. Kill Bill 3? Yet to happen. We're not holding out hope for this particular thing, but we'd love to see him try his hand at a TV series.
Imagine a TV series based around Jackie Brown, say? With Pam Greer and Robert Forster solving crimes for his Bail Bonds office? That'd be awesome. We'd totally watch that. If only to hear this song again...
