There are very few comedians or actors that could get away with pulling this gag off without making someone angry.
Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds swapped chat shows last night, and in doing so confused the hell out of Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel and both studio audiences.
Pulling off the classic chat show switcheroo, Ferrell was originally due to appear on Fallon's 'Tonight Show', with Reynolds to be interviewed by Jimmy Kimmel on his 'Live' late-night show.
Wearing very relaxed attire (Ferrell really leaned into this with a 'Star Wars' pyjama set, sippers and a rain jacket), both actors were keen to continue their interviews as if they were promoting the other's new release.
Ferrell is currently busy promoting his new Apple TV+ miniseries 'The Shrink Next Door' which also stars 2021's sexiest man alive Paul Rudd; while Reynolds is doing the interview rounds to promote his new Netflix blockbuster 'Red Notice' which also stars Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot.
However, as both actors were appearing in place of each-other, Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel both continued to ask the same questions as if there was no change in the schedule with both answering questions on the other's new releases and other more personal questions.
Reynolds ended up speaking some trash talk about Ferrell on 'The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon' for his "no-show" appearance, eventually refusing to talk about his latest Netflix release and threatening Fallon with the "back of my hand" if he mentioned it again. On 'Jimmy Kimmel Live', meanwhile, Ferrell attempted to answer questions about Blake Lively and his incredible workout regimen.
It's the type of TV that has the potential of being a complete car crash, and it really, truly is.
Here's the Will Ferrell interview.
And the Ryan Reynolds one.
'Red Notice' is in cinemas and arrives on Netflix this Friday; the first three episodes of 'The Shrink Next Door' premiere on Apple TV+ tomorrow too.
