If you asked us to name TV's ultimate family, chances are we'd throw out something along the lines of The Simpsons, but when UPC decided to ask the nation who their favourite clan was, they discovered that Homer and co were choking on Agnes Browne's dust.
The cartoon family only managed to nab 9 per cent of the votes from viewers, who were given a selection of TV families including The Sopranos, The Royles and even Fair City's Doyles to pick from: Mrs Brown and her brood ploughed full steam ahead, topping the vote with 15 per cent, but she didn't sweep the board.
Lads were far more interested in Del Boy and Rodney Trotter, with the boys topping the vote among the gents, and even managing to beat Mrs Brown into second place in the Dublin region: A strong performance nationwide put The Trotters in second place with 13 per cent. Lovely jubbly. Joining them in the Top 5 were The Fawltys from Fawlty Towers, and of course, The Waltons. Sure who hasn't pulled an oul "Goodnight John Boy" out of the bag at some stage in their lives, eh?
The Pritchetts (Modern Family) Kardashians (Keeping Up With The Kardashians), Griffins (Family Guy) and Gellers (Friends) all made an appearance too, but The Flintstones failed to nab a single vote. Y
We're still stumped when it comes to the appeal of Mrs Brown here in the office. We just don't get it, but as we've said on many an occasion, we won't begrude Brendan O'Carroll and co their success.
