We've spent the last few weeks laughing our heads off with the Republic of Telly gang, so we were only distraught to discover that we had reached the final episode in the current series. As Depeche Mode would say, we just can't get enough, and as the show drew to a close, Dermot, Jennifer, Bernard and co. reminded us precisely why.
As if a trip to Coppers in the early hours wasn't enough to have us choking on our cupán tae, the gang came up with a killer combo that reminded us what it really means to be Irish. It was almost as amazing as that Things You Could Say in the 1980s montage that captivated the nation a few weeks back. We'll warn you, as ever, it's not for sensitive ears.
We're not quite sure what we'll do of a Monday night now lads. I mean Ian McKellen and Derek Jacobi's Vicious isn't half bad, but there's something so distinctly Irish about Republic of Telly that sets it apart from other TV series. We seldom find something we love that much on Irish telly, or indeed a show that manages to consistently hit the nail on the head, time after time.
Jen and Bernard will be back to host a brand new comedy talent search on RTE Two, but we'll be waiting a while to see them team up with Dermot for another series.
Here's hoping RTE don't pull the plug on this one: In my opinion, Love/Hate aside, it's probably one of the best things they've produced by a country mile. Jus' sayin.
