"Dad has left. And now it feels like the family has a new dad. And he's black." For anyone worried that the Daily Show had lost its Dad when Jon Stewart handed in the towel, you can feel safe in the knowledge that your new stepdad is cool, calm, and delightfully self-depreciating.
During his first opening monologue, as well has playing homage to Stewart (his quest is to not let Stewart "look like the crazy old dude who left all his inheritance to some kid from Africa"), Noah also addresses why a woman didn't take over the hosting post, and why the role didn't go to an American.
Reaction on Twitter was, on the whole, positive.
Congratulations to @TrevorNoah tonight. @TheDailyShow's new opening credits now show Earth rotating in the correct direction.
