Steven Soderbergh has, up until now, been a very successful director with films such as last year's Side Effects, the classic Out of Sight and, of course, Ocean's Eleven (great), Twelve (meh) and Thirteen (just OK). Aside from the HBO TV movie Behind The Candelabra - which was released in cinemas over on this side of the world - Soderbergh hasn't ventured much into TV-land. Until now, that is.
Set in 1900's New York, The Knick focuses on Knickerbocker Hospital and takes in the world of medical surgery without the use of anaesthesia or any of the modern practices we have today. The 10-part miniseries will star Clive Owen as Dr. John Thackery. Owen was recently spotted on-set rocking a fairly decent moustache and period clothing.
Our initial thoughts? It's great to see Steven Soderbergh getting into TV and obviously that whole "retirement" thing was bullshit. Clive Owen's a decent actor as well so it's all looking positive. No word as yet on where or when it'll be released on Irish and UK TVs, but we're guessing it'll probably end up on Sky Atlantic or something.
