We're all a wee bit sad that the summer is over but at least there's one good thing about the changing of the seasons: Sill season is over and there's plenty to look forward to on the tellybox this autumn.
Now, we all know there's plenty of Irish drama coming our way already, but what are our neighbours across the Irish Sea offering up? Well, if the Beeb's latest trailer is anything to go by, quite a lot.
Sherlock tops the bill in the 'Original British Drama' sneak peek released by the broadcaster just yesterday, and he's joined by quite a few interesting offerings, both old and new. Ripper Street (which has heavy Irish connections due to the fact that it's actually filmed here in Dublin) is just one of the highlights, followed closely by newcomer The Musketeers (not least because Peter Capaldi is on board as the scheming Cardinal Richelieu).
Irish viewers should definitely keep an eye our for Quirke, which was filmed on location in our own capital. Gabriel Byrne takes the lead in the BBC/RTE co-production, adapted from the John Banville novels, written under the pen name Benjamin Black. The drama centres around a chief pathologist in the Dublin city morgue who investigates cases involving sudden death victims in the 1950s. Merlin's Colin Morgan, Nick Dunning (of The Tudors fame) and Stanley Townsend (who most famously played Dr Michael Neary in Whistleblower) are all among the supporting cast.
Don't just take our word for it though, have a peek at the trailer and decide for yourself what's up your alley. There are plenty more treats in store...
